Wellness Coaching – 5 Day Intensive at the Jersey Shore

This training will educate mental health service providers (both peers and non-peers) on wellness coaching techniques to help individuals with mental illnesses link to primary health care and health promotion activities. This training creates a new role that addresses health and wellness needs from a self-management perspective. The focus of this work will be coaching efforts to reduce high risk behaviors and health risk factors.

The role of a Wellness Coach is to help individuals set and achieve wellness or health related goals by offering support, encouragement, and asking questions to identify what is most helpful.

A Wellness Coach Will…

  • Focus on wellness, particularly the physical dimensions
  • Apply principles and processes of professional life coaching to the goal of lifestyle improvement
  • Use a combination of communication techniques, motivational strategies, and coaching principles
  • Emphasize collaboration in which the coach helps guide an individual toward successful and long lasting behavioral change
  • Provide ongoing individualized support
