The volunteers of the Capital District held several exciting events this past year!
- In October, a workshop on Assistive Technology was held. The topics that were discussed included: using a seating simulator, how to write a letter of medical justification for wheelchairs, how to become RESNA certified and environmental control units
- In November, a meeting was held at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. Nicholas Schrader presented on remodeling to age in place and Nancy Simon discussed OT home assessments and accessibility.
- In March, Jeff Tomlinson discussed the current legislative issues that were being addressed at Lobby Day. Jeff provided us with information on the proposed changes to the OT Practice Act and the AOTA RA motions for this year' annual meeting. Lobby Day was held in March with great success and turnout!
- OT Practice Act was discussed throughout the year. Feedback was communicated to Jeff Tomlinson and the Executive Board. If you have questions or concerns regarding the OT Practice Act and how it will affect your profession, send an email to nysota@aol.com . It isn’t too late!
- Two roundtable discussions on OTA supervision and the concerns that arise with supervision were held this year. Great ideas were exchanged!
- The Capital District Chairperson presented at SUNY Canton and Maria College on the benefits of being a NYSOTA member.
- Two new programs were implemented by the Executive Board this year.
- Pay-It-Forward- allows a current practitioner to purchase a student membership (just $40) for a student. In turn, the student, once a practitioner will do the same for another student.
- Student Program- If 100% of the class becomes a NYSOTA member, then the fee is only $20. If 75% or more of the class becomes a member, than the fee is only $25.
- We had appetizers and casual conversation with the President of NYSOTA and other board members at the Desmond in Albany.
- Tammy Biore was re-elected Vice-Chairperson for 2008-10.
